Raphael “Ray” Aguard Munnings, CD
Raphael, born in New Providence, Nassau, Bahamas, nicknamed “Ray,” was the leader of a band called The Beginning of the End. Included were two brothers, Leroy Munnings and Frank Munnings, and a good friend, Fred Henfield. This band produced a song called “Funky Nassau,” which was the first million-seller out of the Bahamas, their first gold record, and also the first Grammy award for their country.
Ray was inspired by international entertainers who performed at his father’s (“Freddie” Munnings Sr., OBE) nightclub, the world-renowned Cat & Fiddle. He is a husband, father, and businessman. As a band leader, songwriter, vocalist, arranger, producer, musician, and performer, these musical attributes have taken him around the world.
His most recent honor is being named a Companion of the Order of Distinction for the Commonwealth of the Bahamas, with investiture of national honors by Her Excellency the Most Honourable Dame Cynthia Pratt, Governor General.
